Three-level basement in Sandton, on programme

Tight access, continuous truck cycles and a hard deadline.

Three-level basement in Sandton, on programme

A commercial development off Rivonia Road needed three basement levels excavated on a site with a single access point and neighbours on three sides. The contractor's original plan called for two 30 ton excavators, but the access ramp could not carry the truck volume that pairing would generate.

We reworked the fleet mix to one 30 ton excavator at the face, a 22 ton machine trimming and loading in parallel, and a compact track loader keeping the ramp clean. Cycle times balanced, the ramp stayed usable in wet weather, and truck queueing effectively disappeared.

The basement was completed four days ahead of the earthworks programme, with no wall damage and no neighbour complaints about spoil on the road.
